December 4

This image accurately depicts life in the Tredway household today. Livia was up in the night with a stomachache and the remainders of a cold. Jeremy was up most of the night with a whopping head cold and now it seems to have turned into something a little more flu-like with fever and chills.

It’s been a couch-focused Saturday with plenty of television consumption.

But the Christmas trees have all been trimmed, the December Photo Project is rolling along beautifully, and staying at home for a day is a good deal for my little family. Let’s hope everyone feels better tomorrow.

One more thing. GO BIG RED! Let’s win that Big XII title tonight.

I’m fascinated by the bare arms of the trees as they wind and weave themselves across the winter sky. They’re sculpture of a unique sort, black and tangled, cold and strong. The sun sets beautifully behind them, drawing attention to their arboreal web.

The wind blew icily on her cheeks while the sun’s rays caught the gold in her brown hair. But she didn’t seem to notice the weather as she recalled losing a tooth in school, then really losing it in the hallway on the way to the nurse’s office. Will the tooth fairy still bring me a dollar? she worried. Will YOU still bring me a dollar? she asked, because she’s savvy in the ways of such things.

I told her the tooth fairy is magical, and that if she can get into our house then she’ll be able to get into school, too. Of course I’ll still give you a dollar, I said. And then my heart melted with love for this little person that I adore.

December Photo Project

We’re off to an awesome start with the 2010 December Photo Project! Just look at that sign-up list and think of all the fun memories that will be preserved over the next 25 days. Seriously awesome.

Two reminders.

One, I will randomly select four photos and feature them daily. Because I am a freelance photographer and full-time mama (who rarely passes up invitations for coffee and quite often passes up the piles of dishes and laundry that await me), it’s a safe bet that the featured blogs will be updated at the end of each day. Feel free to check back as often as you wish, but don’t say I didn’t warn you.

Two, join the 2010 DPP Flickr pool here!

**Note: I’ll leave this post at the top of this page until December 1. So continue to scroll down for new content. Got it? Excellent.

December 25: Merry Christmas

dpp09_12_25

Through the blizzard we drove home last night from our big Tredway celebration, and through the blizzard we drove home tonight from the Lawton homestead. I can’t recall another Nebraska Christmas quite like this one. The photo above, for those who know Lincoln, was taken on Rosa Parks Parkway this evening. You can see how the winds have swept the lanes clear—and I’m sure snowplows have been through as well. We had to clear some major blockages to get into our neighborhood however, and then the alley was another journey altogether. But I have a cool husband who is handy with a shovel. While the pioneering Tredway women, uh, stayed in the car like the pansies we are, Jeremy braved the wind and snow to clear a path for us. It was worth the effort, I believe, as we spent Christmas Day eating ham and watching the kids play with the Lawtons.

Tonight we sang Happy Birthday to Jesus as we lit and blew out the Advent candles, and it really felt like a celebration. It’s a bit odd in a way, to celebrate the birth of Someone who came to die for our sins. But that’s the reality of this God I know: He came to seek and save sinners. So I praise Him today for the gift of His Son.

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. – John 3:16

Finally, if you’ve joined the December Photo Project this year, whether for one day or all 25, THANK YOU! We’ve had a wonderful turnout and I feel like I’ve made all sorts of new friends through photos. I’ve been impressed, encouraged and inspired by your stories. Thanks for joining me in the challenge and fun of the DPP!

My husband Jeremy deserves a huge thank-you as well. He does all the heavy-lifting behind the scenes while I just make things look and sound nice. Whether I ask him to move whole sections of the blog or I forget for the umpteemth time how to resize my photos, he is my faithful helper and support. Thank you, Jeremy!

Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night.

Has posting DPP shots this close to Christmas always been this challenging? Hmm. Amidst wrapping gifts, finishing last-minute shopping, making plans for family/church time, grocery shopping and general anticipation of a supposedly large winter storm, there’s the camera. And it can’t be ignored!

I hope all the other December Photo Project participants are enjoying this beautiful season. It’s been a joy to see it through your eyes!
