Today is what a good Sunday is all about… a great worship service in the morning and long afternoon of peace and quiet, including a two hour loss of consciousness (usually referred to as “nap”) and the periodic gentle drumming of rain on the back windows.
While I’m on the topic of Sundays, here are a few reasons why Zion Church is home to me:
– warm, friendly people that I love as dearly as I love my own family
– music, including choruses that lift the roof off the house in praise to the Lord and traditional hymns that contain precisely worded sentiments of worship through the ages
– a thoughtful order of worship on a weekly basis: call to worship, confession and praise, giving, instruction and celebration of the Lord’s supper
– sound doctrine of the PCA
– godly leadership; most importantly, the leadership of Pastor Kerns (aka Stu to those of us who know and love him)

I most definately agree to that description of Zion church. It is such a blessing to be in that body of believers, with that kind of fellowship…I always say that that is one of the things I would miss most if I ever moved away from Lincoln.

i too can verify that missing zion whilst living in a different state is an awful thing. (it’s the real reason i came back to lincoln)

perhaps the attention given to male facial hair is equivalent to female head hair attention. b, i’m starting to notice some sort of correlation between comments on your blog and the buzz on stu’s goatee. hmmmm… let’s devote some thought to this, shall we? [rubbing chin]

i didn’t know it was such a hot topic! :) i think it’s quite different because i’m not trying to say he should or should not have a goatee. i’m simply observing it. it’s the equivalent of someone saying “oh your hair is getting long!” or “did you get a haircut?” not “NOOOO DON”T EVER CUT YOUR HAIR NEVER EVER NEVER.”
or something like that. :)

well, there are most definitely some good things to getting away from your home church as well. i know that oftentimes an inferior ‘away’ church situation will occur and you’re left with a deep longing for something familiar or at least reminiscient of home. i’ve been blessed by having an amazing ‘away’ church body and pastor. joe novenson, famous to pca preachin’, tosses the schizznat, for shizzle dizzle — spittin’ the crazies, with the best of them. so really, i’ve had an amazing time getting acquainted with new people and different ways of doing things — same liturgical method, different practice of that method. i’m not really sure if it’s helped me gain a better perspective on the nature of Zion, however i know that some distance has been healthy for me. by the way, i got pulled up in front of lookout mountain presbyterian church for use in a sermon illustration. my fly was up, thank you.

women should be smooth and act as if hair-removal is not even an issue…they are just naturally smooth!

i heard about that you got pulled up front — was it by joe? and you’re right about gaining perspective by attending other churches. one bad thing about not getting away from zion is there exists great potential to become complacent about what we have here. also, it’s really easy to ignore the newcomers to the church and be entirely selfish in our approaches to sunday mornings and other church activities.

it wasn’t joe. there was a guest preacher that day…the president of world relief (as seen on nbc and cnn actually). he wanted to demonstrate the violent reprecussions of claiming christianity in a certain area of africa. yeah…he was very good at voicing the gospel, especially for a brit.
