The Amazing Race 7

Is anyone else still hooked on this show? The premiere last week found me a little glossy-eyed. I’m not sure I was ready for two hours of new teams running the race since the last show ended only three weeks earlier. And yet, I’m strangely and utterly addicted to this program. It’s not your average reality program (trust me, I would know)—it’s far better.

Contestants I’m rooting for: Rob and Amber. Well, so far I’m cheering them on. I tend to support teams that are fun, friendly and honest, and Rob could be pushing the envelope on the honesty ticket. I know that tons of people hated him all through Survivor, but I loved the guy. And even though he kinda lied to fellow racers last week, he charmingly winked at the camera, so all is forgiven in my book.

There are a lot of new shows on tv right now. But is any of it really worth watching? Let me know if some new gem has escaped my notice. After 8pm (baby bedtime) I’m a free woman.

Shows worth watching imho (although Lost is the only “new” one, as airing for the first time this year):

Joan of Arcadia (8, Fridays, CBS)
Lost, Alias (7 and 8, respectively, Wednesdays, ABC)
    Arrested Development (7:30, Sundays, FOX)
    Scrubs (8, Tuesdays, NBC)

Amen, Bethany! I have had to avoid getting sucked into Lost because I have a regular commitment on Wednesday nights, but I am absolutely ADDICTED to the others you listed. I heard Arrested Development might get cancelled this year, though, so I’m very sad.

Haley – I suppose this is a good time for me to admit, as I considered doing in my original comment, that I’ve never actually seen a full episode of Lost. But I hear from people I trust that it’s absolutely excellent, and I believe them…the only reason I haven’t been watching it is because I missed the first several weeks, and I just didn’t want to jump in partway through the season. I’d rather wait for the DVDs and see them all in order.

I hope Arrested Development isn’t cancelled, but I fear it may be. Alas. The good ones never last long, it seems.

I second Bethany’s picks; although I don’t watch Alias or Lost, I have heard that they are excellent.
One correction: Joan of Arcadia (THE best show on television right now) is actually at 7:00 p.m. on Fridays on CBS. But it is worth the hassle of recording and watching it after Livia goes to sleep (plus the bonus feature: NO commercials!).

Are you guys trying to tell me I’m the only one around here who watches American Chopper? Now there’s a real show. Next you’ll tell me you don’t watach NASCAR races.l JR

Oh dear, John. What are we going to do with you?

And when are you starting your own blog? The first post could be titled, “Musings on American Chopper,” and you can fill us in on all the action.

I think having my own blog would be just a tad too dangerous. Promise not to tell anyone, but Debbie watches AC too. Melodrama in the bike shop. WooHoo. JR

We are still watching TAR7, but we aren’t really cheering on Rob & Am-buh because we think they have already won enough money. BUT, I do admit that they are playing the game very smartly. D really likes the POW & Beauty Queen… I like the Mom & Son team.
We like Lost as well… and are still watching Alias, but it is easier to tape that and watch it later because we are no longer so “adicted” to it as previous seasons.
We don’t have expanded cable, but when we did, I will admit I was addicted to American Chopper. I don’t know why, but I was very into that show.

I can’t stand Ray. He is constantely putting down Meridith and Gretchen. Like what is his problem. He should take a good look at his wrinkley face before he puts other people down. He is just showing the world that he is scared of getting old that is why he is dating a much YOUNGER women. He should get a life and start living it before its too late. Stop putting older people down buddy because your over the hill too…..if you haven’t noticed the last 50yrs go by!!!

I’m not too fond of Ray myself, more because of his treatment of his racing partner. I caught the interview on CBS this morning, though, and he seemed nicer in the less stressful setting.

I don’t really blame Ray/Deanna and Rob/Amber for not giving Meredith and Gretchen money for that leg of the race. In fact, I think it’s tacky for the penniless racers to ASK the other teams for money! This is part of the race — why should the other teams “help out” in such a situation? Maybe I’m just being mean…

However, I definitely would’ve stopped to make sure the car accident victims were okay. Rob and Amber could’ve at least rolled down the window and showed a little compassion. I’m a fan of Rob’s in most settings, but I don’t agree with his play-the-game-at-all-costs mentality.
