Being Idol

Shall I comment on the book I’m currently reading, or some theological discussion I overheard today? No, I think I’ll rehash “American Idol” and add to the overwhelming number of bloggers who have opinions on this subject. Kim C. is gone — fine with me. Carmen should’ve been kicked off first though. I retract my strong opposition to Josh the Marine. He’s not as bad as I thought he was, though I still am tormented by his rendition of “Celebration” — come awn! — yikes! Trenyce has been disappointing in the last several weeks… Perhaps the diva-Whitney-Houston-mimicry is all she’s capable of? I attempted a vote for Kim Locke after I realized it’s all about strategy from here on out. Only the good ones in danger of getting kicked off the island (oops, that’s another show) really need the votes. Clay is still good with his wonderful, Broadway voice and Ruben’s soothing vocals are tops. That’s all the deep thoughts I have to offer.

I liked Kim C. just because her voice had a bit of an edge. I mean, everyone on American Idol sounds the same and at least she had a bit of an edge. I love Clay, and Reuben is just too cute. But really, how do we know these people are real writers and musicians when all they let them sing are covers. Anyone can do a cover, but only a few can write lyrics and music that rock.

um, i don’t think anyone on american idol cares whether they have any real musical ability….just whether they can look pretty while singing songs someone else wrote.

american idol — totally NOT about real songwriting or general musical talent. it’s like a bad talent show (our mcees were much better in high school!) where a few fairly decent singers are invited back again and again. i suppose if i was one of those fairly decent singers i’d like being on the show simply for excellent exposure and future opportunities.

i find that it’s impossible now for me to not respond to every little blog post. i’ve been sucked in. american idol. i used to watch it because i loved to see the whitney houston covers. nothing is better than a 3 1/2 octave range coupled with an overactive vibrato. the only problem is that there is only one type of singer they are looking for — a diva-like glamour woman with a shiny disposition. i understand the limits; i would hate to see full bands up there trying to make it big. it would just be way too over the top. eh…i need to get out of this blog posting business.

i don’t know what’s wrong with it…..it’s screwed up. i’ve pointed it out to [jp/p], but i’m not sure if he’s doing anything to fix it or not.
