A lot has changed since the last time I updated our News from Nebraska! Of course, I’ve noticed firmly that our lives change greatly within periods of six months… So it fits that things would be different considering I wrote about nine months ago!
Our biggest change is in residence. Yes, we are moving into the “middle class America” stage of our lives and have become homeowners. Gosh, the word homeowner really does sound mature (and a bit boring!). While in St. Louis Jeremy and I began to talk about the idea of community—an idea left somewhere in the 1950’s when mom and pop grocery stores existed, when an ice cream shop or donut stand was within walking distance, when folks sat out on their front porches talking long into the evenings. We began to think, why build a community with a church that you don’t live anywhere near? Why build a community with these people then drive clear across town to the ‘burbs, open your attached garage and never know your closest neighbor? With this idea in mind we moved all wordly possessions to Lincoln, Nebraska, and rented an apartment as near to church as possible within our chosen price range. And then, God moved. He opened the doors for us to purchase a wonderful, old, needs-some-but-not-too-many-repairs, 1915 four-square house on the same city block as our home church. And here we are. Join us some evening for a Smirnoff Ice (Jeremy’s choice) or a Mike’s Hard Lemonade (Rebecca’s) on our front porch. (Actually, our neighbors have much better porch furniture—so maybe we’ll just sneak over there.)
Other than the change from apartment dwellers to homesteaders, we’re the same Jeremy & Rebecca. Jeremy—still a web man, working hard at both iUniverse and freelance web design. Other than desparately looking for a cure for all backaches, he enjoys pottery, crocheting and gardening. Oops… no, that’s me! Though the shoulder knots bit is true, Jeremy still likes gaming, good movies and his wife. I’m finding way too many projects to keep me busy—painting furniture and walls, attempting to be a decent homemaker (which involves many an ongoing project!) and throwing pottery on the wheel at local studio. The latter is my most favorite thing to do; a lifelong goal finally becoming a reality. I’m hoping that, with time, my pottery will be decent enough to, say, leave out for public viewing.
Any Tredlets (as my Uncle Steve once said) in the future? Hopefully soon! Keep praying for God’s will and we’ll let you know when an adoption prospect comes through!
