This is your advent calender…I am assuming. I love it. Do you have a verse to go with each day? I would love a copy of it and also a big picture of it. I am trying to put one together and this is the cutest one I have seen!
Oh, what a precious idea for advent. I love it. Here I was trying to figure out how to make all of the ornaments out of felt over the next year so we could use them next Christmas. Thanks.
Yeah, I’ve seen lots of references to Jesse Trees this year, but I’m not familiar with them. Is it basically the same as an advent calendar, but telling the story of Jesus with the symbols?
I would love to see the whole thing – I’ve been trying to figure out how I’d like to make a jesse tree and have been trying to look at cute photos for inspiration.
It is like an Advent calendar, but it goes through the story of redemption through the entire Biblical story. So everything in the Bible relates to the coming of Jesus. There are readings in a booklet to go along with each symbol for each day.
I agree–these Jesse trees are really cool. But then I was (a small) part of the group that put them together. :)
No, the gingham is covering one of the many people that will be on the tree–the coat of many colors comes later. Lori F. found a cute stripey fabric for Joseph’s coat.
I’ve been laughing out loud at the last three comments for probably the last half hour. And I have to say, I’m a bit at a loss for the gingham, er, sticks? Which is bad since I’m in the midst of teaching Genesis to my 3rd graders. So far I’m guess that a) it’s the fabric Shem and Japheth used to cover up their passed out, naked father (shouldn’t that be a part of every Advent?), b) sticks used to build the Tower of Babel, c)the white on blue represents the stars in the sky which were referenced when the promise was made to Abram that he would be a father of many nations. The sticks are the covenant sacrifice. Booyah.
Apparently Rebecca, some of us need to come over every night for Advent lessons. Sound good?
The gingham is covering a clothespin person: Abraham or Sarah or some such (I don’t know exactly, because mentor moms didn’t get a Jesse tree). There are several clothespin people to come as well, including the baby Jesus clothespin, wrapping in clothespin swaddling. Presumably not gingham.
The sticks I think are representing when Abraham took Isaac up to be sacrificed, and God provided the ram.
Go Google Jesse tree, Lindsey!! :)
Ok I just got back from JoAnne Fabrics, I am going to whip up one of these bad jacksons TOMORROW with my 4 year old. I love it can you tell! I would love to see ALL your ornaments! What devotional do you use? My hubs is a Pastor so I am sure he could whip something up but I found a few online I was looking at to make it a bit easier :) Yours is so cute :)Stacy from Maryland, first timer on your blog…love it

Is this one of those Jesse Tree advent calendars I’ve been hearing about/seeing everywhere? Do tell more.

I get them all so far except for the gingham. Coat of (not so) many colors?

B, weren’t you aware that Abraham wore gingham coats? No? Well… we can’t all be OT scholars.

Oh right…I forgot about the part in Genesis when Ma sends Abraham to the general store to buy a yard of calico.

Aaaand I guess I didn’t read Kerri’s well enough. Who is the gingham person then?
