This is what death looks like.
My sweet little Canon Powershot S1 IS saw no tunnel, no white lights. Rather it saw a dark screen with horizontal purple lines.
RIP, my small, silver friend.
(Let’s hope the blog doesn’t die as well.)

Nah. That’s not dead. It’s only mostly dead. Let it warm up a little, and you can still get squiggly, indistinct, purple-tinted images for weeks to come.
Boo. But yay for new camera to come!

Ack!! Sadness, my friend, that sucks big time. Is a new camera in the budget?
I was talking to a lady from church a few days ago, who happens to do great photography, and she recommended get a SLR digital camera (I believe it stands for single lense reflex). Not sure if you know anything about this, but just thought I’d pass it on. And unless my camera dies, I won’t be getting a new camera anytime soon!! :)

That camera was so good to you! And so good to us as enjoyers (is that a word?) of your beautiful photographs.

Ack! Check out D. Pogue’s new review of SLRs. Don’t know the price but could be cool!

SLR digital cameras start at around $800 but the really nice true SLRs start at around $1600 and go up to over $5000.
Decide what you want out of your camera and then compare that to your budget and then make it happen. Do not buy what you don’t need cuz sister… they’ll sell it to ya!
Kristin wants a new camera. All the models that have the things she wants lack the flip-out LCD screen that makes self portraits a snap. So far it’s been a real sticking point and we’re continuing to look.
Good luck!

The digital SLRs are very cool. But the truth of the matter is that I have a lot to learn about photography. I’ll have to decide how much money I can spend now in good conscience considering my skill level. The problem is that I want a camera now! I realized with woe yesterday that I couldn’t photograph the chocolate chip cookies I was trying out, or even Liv’s Tinkerbell costume tomorrow. Argh. (Mom, can I still borrow your camera?)

FYI–the same woman I mentioned in the first comment told me that she and her husband did a lot of searching and found a decent, used SLR for around $500. But then she did spent a lot extra to buy an external flash (but that’s certainly not necessary). Just thought I’d mention.
