I admit I’ve become a little less reflective in recent months. For proof one has to look no further than the monthly letters I write my daughter; last month’s was exceedingly short and this month’s is non-existent. I credit the lack of reflection to the busy nature of mothering a toddler. Livia and I spend so much time interacting face to face that I feel less emotional desire to write lengthy letters to her. The desire to look deeply into things has faded in other areas of my life as well… I’ve been shooting less pictures and writing less (both on the blog and otherwise). So, it was with great intention that Livia and I set out for a photo walk a week ago. It was time to look into the details of creation and take a few moments to admire the Creator’s work. I don’t believe the beauty of the rose or the perfection of the acorn happened on accident. Even the small things of creation point to the One who planned it.

That’s exactly how I feel. I told my husband that I only need to look at the smallest, most intricate snowflake or even the individual petals of a flower to know that God exists.

Snowflakes remind me of a book I read on Snowflake Bentley as a child.

And in the theme of learning more about nature, I looked up acorns on Wikipedia. Wowee, those little things pack quite a punch. Read all about ’em:

I truely believe that God loves to give us these little glimpses. There have been many days that the art of motherhood has worn me out. I have found that if I ask God for a gift of nature to cheer me up and make me feel small again I always receive it. There have been glorious sunsets that I have watched out my kitchen window after making a meal for seven. Deer in my front yard when trying to hunt down my seven year old. And my favorite the breathtaking smile of each and every one of my children when they are content with themselves. Ask Him, he loves to give us these moments!
