A Blogging Attempt

Posted on Sep 7, 2005 at 10:29 AM in Uncategorized

I’m experiencing major brain-freeze when it comes to blogging these days. As always, there is plenty to write about, but I’m feeling more than a bit sluggish about actually writing. My apologies to you who run a blog roll each day and are bored at the sight of the Prairie Box… I’ll try harder, I promise.

Random Thoughts:
Baby clothes are kind of expensive. And I’m not even sure what size my daughter will be wearing this fall. She is quite tall and quite slender; sometimes 12 month shorts fall off her teeny waist. Hmmm…

I made my first eBay purchase the other day under my tutor’s experienced guidance (Jeremy knows the in’s and out’s). MAC lipstick in Lame. Girls, I am telling you, MAC is the best of the best, the cream of the crop. Long-lasting, perfect color. Glosses or lipsticks, take your pick. (Man, they should pay me for this recommendation!)

When you’ve given your life to God, things don’t really get stagnant. Sometimes I think my spiritual life is ho hum – but this is only due to my lack of prayer. When I ask for insight, boy, do I get it. Right now the depth of my pride, or perhaps the sheer height of it, is blowing me away. I’m in need of all sorts of grace.

Another thing I’m learning about is that my discontent (of life) is sin, plain and simple. I tend to be a “grass is greener” kind of girl, falsely believing that the life I don’t have is better than what God’s given me. When I was in school I couldn’t wait to be a stay-at-home mom. And now that I’m at home, I find myself thinking about taking classes or working – and how these things may make my life more fulfilling. I’m slowly learning to cover my ears, ignore these lies, and thank the Lord for the ability to be fully at home right now.

Okay, enough of the heavy stuff… Our garden’s not looking so good. Between a small hailstorm and late planting, I think it’s almost done for.

Anaheim peppers, at least the ones in our garden, are H-O-T. Note to self: next time you make teriyaki skewers, make sure to remove the seeds from the peppers. And then after you sample a terrifically hot piece of pepper, make sure not to rub your eyes. And if you do rub your eyes, make sure to have some Visine on hand.

I want to write about the devastation in Louisiana and Mississippi. And yet I don’t want to as well. So much death and destruction, so much heartache and loss. We continue to pray…

    Combining the first two topics:
Baby clothes are expensive, but ebay is good for them, too, depending on what you need. I just bought Kate several new things for much cheaper than the list price (always at least 1/2 off before shipping, usually more). And of course, you can always get used stuff, too, but shipping often deters me from buying used unless I am looking for something specific I am not sure I can find in a store for an affordable price (like, a peter pan collar shirt that is nice enough to wear under her nicest jumper but not so nice it looks funny under a denim jumper with striped tights. Typing that out made me feel obsessive compulsive.) Well, Kate had birthday money and gift cards, so I decided to go ahead and get her winter wardrobe while she had cash, before I spent it on all fun stuff :o) Also, cute jeans and khakis are on sale for $5 at Target this week, so I got Kate a pair of each. Our problem is that Kate is short and slender but wears big old cloth diapers… also difficult to fit!

    I know topics 3 and 4 pretty well myself…

I’m seconding Kristen’s post about eBay and baby clothes. I’ve gone through a couple of significant eBay Baby Clothes binges over the past few years. I knew it was bad when the mailwoman carried four packages onto my porch one morning when Torrin was about 2 and said, “you must be buying stuff off of the Internet.” :)

And I personally feel that most children’s clothing is too big around the waist. This has always been a problem with Torrin. By the time the pants stop sagging or entirely sliding off of his almost nonexistent rear end, they are becoming high waters.

You are not the only one that looks to the other side of the fence–it is so easy to do in this world! I am working 40+ hours a week and often catch myself thinking “What would it be like not to work? Would I like it? Maybe I would be happier in a different job, different state, different…” Ahh, the depths of my sin.
Anyways—I’m looking forward to thrusday night hangouts. Are you still thinking about doing that?

    Hey Rebecca –
Jeremy just showed me your blog today – I met you at Sarah’s wedding and I sometimes make it over to Zion Church. :)

I really liked your comments about “the grass is greener.” I find myself doing that a lot and your thoughts were right on – God DOES want us in this place, at this particular time, and we shouldn’t question it. I often look back at my life and I can see how God has worked to bring me to this point. I need to thank Him more.

Thanks for the reminder! I look forward to reading more of your posts. :)

    kristen – you’re not o.c. : ) I’m the same way about Livia’s clothes.

Jacinda – highwaters indeed. We’re all about the highwaters here.

christina – I do want to host Thursday night hangouts. Hopefully it’ll happen soon, like maybe next week. Be forewarned that Survivor might be playing at low volume in the background!

Melissa – Welcome to the blog! It was nice to meet you at the wedding; I look forward to seeing you at Zion sometime, too. : )

My kids are all really skinny. Being old-fashioned and extremely traditional, i chose old-fashioned cloth diapers with pins and rubber pants. I found that folding over the very front of the baby’s cloth diaper like a hem before pinning helps keep the diaper up and on. Practice makes perfect, and now i can get a good snug and secure fit with no effort at all! As long as the rubber pants aren’t too loose around the elastic leg openings, your in business! Summing up, i personally think that old-fashioned style pin-on cloth diapers with pull-on rubber pants provide the best fit a mother can ask for when it comes to diapers.
