Ha! A federal judge in New York has refused to order a jail to serve three inmates vegan meals, requested because “non-vegan diets conflict with Jewish mandates to preserve the welfare of animals.” The three are serving time on charges including rioting, criminal mischief and resisting arrest. Hmmm… wonder what the ol’ Jewish mandates had to say about that kind of behavior?

i agree that serving vegan diets in jail seems stupid, however what your supposing here is that because they disobeyed jewish mandates in the past they somehow forfeit their right to claim a religiously distinct diet. certainly i would not want to be forced to compromise my christian beliefs simply because i’ve not always acted the role of a christ-follower.

right you are… our hypocrisy does not mean that the truths of old (meaning, Xnity or Judaic laws) do not hold true still. i could talk about how Christ has fulfilled those Jewish laws, but i’m not enough of a scholar to do so (and it’s not really necessary here either).
the jail refused to serve vegan meals due to significant cost issues related to special meals.

It’d be very easy to offer vegan meals. It would also be cheap since we produce so much genetically engineered soy these days.
