Hmmm? What’s that?

My Grandma was a big supporter of earplugs.

In her typical, disorganized fashion, the earplugs could be found on her bedside table, by the roll of tp on the bathroom counter, or perhaps in the crack of cushions on her sofa. The thing about her earplugs was that they looked like great big boogers. Squishy, soft, moldable. They were, in fact, the wax kind that fit every nook and cranny of your ear canal. I was both fascinated and totally grossed out by the plugs.

And now I stand, on the other side of childhood, needing earplugs. In a few days I’ll be heading to our nation’s capital for the first time — and for five nights will be subject to the amazingly enormous snores of my father (and a few wee ones from Mom, too). The plugs will be my last hope before sleeping in the bathtub.

I wonder if Grandma was onto something with those little snot balls…

i stand corrected (by the label on the earplugs i just got at walmart). the wax actually doesn’t go in your ear canal — it goes in the outer ear.

can’t you just see me heading to an ER in DC…
“i thought i was supposed to shove it all the way in there!”

and why didn’t i know this?
did you tell me, and i just forgot, or did i just not know?
i miss out on so much when i’m gone for a couple weeks? (i put a question mark there to stick with the trend?)

howdy from washington!! lindsay, i forgot to tell many folks about this trip… it just sort of snuck up on my. : ) i’m here because my dad has a conference on health stuff and my mom and i jumped on the opportunity to be geeky tourists with a free hotel stay. but hey, this is a city of tourists, so we fit right in… me with numerous maps in my clenched fists and mom right next to me, toting water bottles and smithsonian bags all over the mall. good stuff! i’ve taken quite a few pictures. hopefully i can get them on our site at some point. more blogging later…

linds, i’m headed to your site to check out horn creek info. will i find anything? hmm…

it’s too hard to try to describe all of camp!
let me just say that it was my favorite year yet.

i agree with lindsay that camp is too much to describe on our website… but we will definately tell you all about it in person (whenever the next time we see you will be). i had absolutely the best time there, and i already miss it!

i’m so glad you guys had a wonderful time! in case i don’t see you soon, here’s what i want to know about:
    speakers
    cabins
    activities
    music
    friday night

i get to see a friend of mine tomorrow — her name is autumn and i first met her about 10 year ago at horn creek! she now works for a congressman from florida. ah, pya — good times, good times. : )

    *speakers of note:
Dean Conkle-okay speaker; he spoke last year and was better then. However, Dean adds a lot of fun and humor to the conference, so I’m glad he was there.
Chris Polski-excellent speaker (evening); not only has he met Bono on several occasions, but he knows the Bible backwards, forwards, inside out.
*my cabin was absolutely amazing! We did a ton of fun stuff that other cabins didn’t do, like doing our cabin time outside in the dark on the mountainside, and telling scary stories till 2 am, etc. All nine of us got along amazingly well, and it was undisputed at camp that we had the best cabin.
*One of my most memorable activities was climbing Horn Peak. That was a lot of fun. Also, as far as planned activities go, we had some fun volleyball games, and some “leadership” activities.
*Music was by Kirk Ward, who was very good. Fun Fact: his father wrote the updated version of “Rock of Ages.” (the one we sing in church.)
*My favorite memory of Friday night was going on an illegal hike with a few other friends at about one in the morning. We sat out by the creek telling ghost stories and watching shooting stars. Ah, the good memories.
I tried to give you a taste, becca, but that’s the best I can do.

from what i hear, it’s not exactly “undisputed” that you had the best cabin, linds. :)

did the nebraska group have fun together? how about adam?

  11. lindsay Jul 9, 2003 4:47 PM

I think generally people had a good time.
To tell the truth, we really didn’t spend much time together “as a group.” We were as little like a “group” as we ever have been.
